2005 XKR Gear Shift problem
When I start the car everything seems fine. The problem is that the gear shift remains locked. I have tried depressing the brake pedal hard and I have let the car run for a bit. It has gone into gear but I am not sure what I did that made it function. Any insight that you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
R, sorry but a bit confused.
You say its locked, then say it went into gear.
Is it now working, this is retrospective analysis?
Do you know about the shifter unlock access routine?

Do you have the owners manual. A lot of good basic information covered in the owners set of manuals.
can you hear the solenoid clicking under the shifter handle. It should be engaging when you step on the brakes with engine running and shifter in park.

The problem reoccurs when I turn the car off and try to start it again. I do not know about the shifter routine. Please let me know what that is or where I can find that information. Thank you.
Just search on the forum for “shifter release”. Many topics.

PS: The information is also in the owners manual. Do you have the owners manual ?
PPS : you can also search for “stuck in park” for this topic

Sounds to me like one of the microswitches in the line switch assembly has failed. Most likely the metal arm fell off. You can buy new microswitches on mouser's website. You will have to match connectors, arm type.
I ended up removing my solenoid just in case.
