Default 2005 xkr low beam headlamp bulb replacement

I'm brand new to the forum, but from what I've read so far I know someone can help me. I've got several problems with my 2005 XKR convertible within the last two weeks: convertible top hoses leaked into the trunk and the quarter windows wont come up (i got the top up manually), the passenger window button came off on the drivers door panel, and the low beam headlight seems to be some sort of assembly and not a bulb. How can I get the windows up until I get the top fixed? Does the headlight bulb come only as a $250 dealer only module( the dealer has a module with a bulb installed but I have seen very similar bulbs on ebay only I cant get mine out of the module)? Any ideas?

For the headlight bulb, see this:

How do you replace headlight on 1997 jaguar XK8

For the rest, do a search on this site.

Pics from inside of fender well. Not too hard to do; but the metal clip that holds the bulb in can be a bit frustrating. Remember to turn the wheel to give you the most room to work.

and no, you can buy a pair of D2S xenon bulbs online (either Phillips or OSRAM) for $75 ebay...always buy/replace in pairs on cars with age, even 7 years like yours.

Default 2005 xkr low beam d2s replacement....not sure I'm doing this right...

So I read some of the posts on Jagforums and learned my bulbs were going byebye. Got myself some D2S since everyone raves about them, popped my old D1S out and didn't read enough about the D1S lights to know that they are a single unit with the igniter. So I have these brand new D2S bulbs that are in need of an igniter......Exactly what igniter does one but for the bulb? There seems to be a black hole on Google about this subject. I know, worst case go and get a pair of D1S built into the igniter, but I hope someone can point me in the right direction.

Thanks so much.

Hm - different bulbs on that car versus the one I posted here earlier. I'll need to find out too - just picked up a 2003 XKR.

Marcel, i apologize, my post must have led you astray.

The stock HID bulb is the D1S with the ignitor attached. i.m not sure why i posted the previous info incorrectly, so i am sorry for the error and the trouble it caused.

Your hoses have gone on the hydraulic pump over the amp in the rear fender. Mine did that three weeks after buying It. Probably the latch hoses. Mine actually failed at the crimp at the pump.
It's a real pain to replace but necessary. I decided to have my mechanic do it since I didn't have the time.

I got my replacement hoses from Marvin at jaguartoprepair.com. Much better than the factory. They fail at the couplings more often and repairing the originals aren't worth it.

I respectfully disagree with H2O. Popular Mechanics magazine did a piece on the bulb change out in pairs. They couldn't find any science to back up the practice. They did find that a manufacturer put this out in their marketing a few years back ,so it works real good on their bottom line. Marketing's a science, right? Just my two food stamp's worth...

I did this today, but the plastic 'boot' that covers the connection broke apart. I wrapped some electrician's tape around it for now.... how urgently should I look for the new plastic cover piece?

..on a side note, anyone find halogen bulbs that are close to the colour of 6000K?
