Default 2006 XKR Victory Value

I have purchased a 2006 XKR Victory Addition with 23,600 miles. I got a carfax report and it was a single owner who turned in the car after a two year lease was up. The car was serviced at the GreatNeck Jag dealer in NY from where it was purchased and had only service work done with no repairs needed. The car is in great shape with only one small door ding that you have to look for to find.
I paid $33,000.00 from a Non Jag dealer in Houston, and my only issue was there was not a GPS DVD with the car. Is this a good price for my Jag? The car runs like a bat out of hell and after five (5) SAAB’s is nice to have a real sports car to drive.
Is there anything that I need to look at or do to keep the car in the great shape that it is in?
One thing I have a question about is after some hard braking, my rear brakes have a small amount of squeal if applied lightly like when you came up to a stop light. The pads are almost new.

Congratulations on your XKR!

1. Look around e-Bay and get a service manual CD for under $15.00. There's lots of information in there that is handy to know and not covered elsewhere.

2. Lightly driven cars can develop a glaze on newbrakes - especially rears - and squeal under very light braking.Take it out and 'bed' the brakes withsome very strong stops from 45 or 50 mph. From then on, don't lightly brake while gliding to stops, stop like you mean it!

3. For fun, there's a great book called You and Your XK8 or something like that - there's several used ones on Amazon. It's a great history of the car. There's some (I assume) good advice on maintenance in the later chapters.

4. Get an Actron code reader ($100.00) and learn how to use it. If something goes wrong you'll be able to diagnose it and...

5. ...hang around this forum to pick up bits of knowledge, learn from other's mistakes andask a question or two!

Congratulations! This sounds like a virtual steal as Great Neck Jag currently has a similar sounding vehicle for sale on Ebay for about $44K (which seems to be the ballpark range for a 2006 XKR with pretty low mileage). I think the book that Spurlee was referring to is one by Nigel Thorley. I recently bought this and it is a pretty good read about the history and development of the XK8/XKR.

I would recommend working the convertible top plenty to see if there are any indications of trouble such as hydraulic fluid leaking. Since this is a 2006 you are probably still under the original warranty so things like that would be covered without argument.

You got a great deal on the car, I sold my 2006 Victory with 18,500 miles on it to the dealer
In july when I got my 2008 for almost what you paid. They sold it a couple of weeks later
with a new set of brakes and the extended warranty for 41,000K Did it have the extended
warranty? How do you like the carbon dash?

Lets see some pics

Here is a pic of the one I sold

Steve,
I will get some pictures and post this week. Did you have issues with the brakes? My rear brakes squeel and I had the pads replaced and the disks turned. I thought that I would turn the disks before I replaced them to see if the noise would stop. The carbon dash is a nice touch, My XKR color is the Frostblue and the Dove Interior. Did you have any other issues that I should look at? Ipurchasedmy Jag only three weeks ago and I want to do everything correct from the start. I am still looking for a GPS DVD and if someone has a copy I have a Fed-EX number to ship it.

I never had any issues with the brakes, or any thing else with the car. The only
time it was ever at the dealer was for the yearly maint. It was rock solid.
Out of all my previous XK's I think the 06 was the best. The only thing I can think of with your brakes is that the disks could either be warped or glazed over.

Good luck with it

I got some nice weather to take a picture or two of my XKR. I tried to load one of the pictures to my profile but the file was too large to upload. I got to see how I can get a smller picture file size to uplaod? I tried to upload a picture to this reply and it was too large also.
I will check my camera to see if this can be adjusted

I think you have to upload the photos to a hosting site such as Photobucket and then have a pointer/link to those photos. The procedure is described somewhere on this forum.

Don send me a PM for some info on getting you a replacement NAV DVD. Your 06 still has the Alpine right, not the Denso?

Thanks Tom,
I am originally from SC, but been here for almost 20 yrs. It's nice in the winter, about 75 yesterday, but hot as hell in the summer. This area has not been affected by the downturn that the rest of the county is in (yet). We get a great deal of business from Mexico.
I am loving the top down weather we have had here for the last few weeks. I don't know where you live but don't hurt your back shovelingthe snow, and make surenot to forget your coat.

Sounds like you got a great deal and the car is a dream. Mine is a 2006 Victory that is black on black with white cross stitching. The car is a lot of fun to drive and the brake squeal will come and go- just brake hard from time to time like others advise.

One of the coolest things about the car is that the only way to tell it's a Victory is by the different color of the hood emblem.

Enjoy!

Well, All of the planets were in alignment, I got a copy of the GPS DVD and it worked. I removed the calipers on all four wheels and added the anti-squeal jell to the back of the brake pads and no more noise. (so far)
The weather is great in South Texas and the top has been down. Just got back from South Padre Island where is was in the low 80's and not a snow shovel within 600 miles.
Thanks to everyone for your help and comments, Still think I will keep the lic plate,at least until May when it gets really toasty down here.

As Buffett said: The weather is here and I wish you were beautiful!
