4.0 to 4.2 engine swap oil pickup question
I have modified the lower sump to take the 4.2 oil pickup, but the pickup is almost 1/2inch too long for the oil pan. Should I hammer the pan deeper, cut a hole and weld on a small sump, or cut the end off of the pickup? thanks for reading this. steve

Not sure from what car/year you got the engine, but the ones I have worked with just fit fine. Are you sure you fitted the tube correctly, so its fully recessed in the block? If so you could check the jepc (jaguar electronic parts catalogue) to check if your oil pick up is different from early ones.

Avos, thank you tfor the quick reply. I am not sure whick car the engine came out of, but was told it was a 2007 XKR. It still had the intercooler attached, but the crank shaft pulley was same diameter as the 2001. It had vvt cams, so I am using the timing setup from the 2001 motor. { 2001 lincoln LS timing gears won't fit on the jaguar cams. Learned that after spending a day in the junkyard taking one apart.} I just found a pickup tube on ebay that looks right and ordered it. thanks again steve

SteveeD,
Does you 4.2 oil pump have oil squirters for the primary chain on it? My friend has 05 from a STR i was thinking of robbing the primary chains and sprockets from to install in my 98xjr, but i dont know if the extra lubrication from the squirters in mandatory or if jag did away with them on latter models. if i could avoid changing the pump i would do the swap, if not i will stick with the stock style chains.

4.0 to 4.2 swap
I have a 2001 and a 2007 motor that I am trying to make into one running engine. Both are supercharged. Neither has chain squirters, but I did notice that the 2001 Lincoln LS I took apart did have chain squirters. Found out the LS looks like the Jag timing gear, but the sprockets do not fit on the Jag cams. Hope this helps.

Did the other pickup work? If so do you have a part number. I am in the process of sorting this out on mine. I have the updated pump, which I will have to drill and tap the block for one of the mounting holes, then some clearancing on the upper pan. To be finished with the 4.2L pickup......if it fits?
