Default 5HP24 transmission - faults P1730&1731&1798

Hi all,

some time ago I bought XK8 Convertible 97 with broken transmission. After short investigation I found the oil pump inside the housing damaged. Replaced the pump with new ZF part and the car started moving:-). I was enjoying the smooth ride for 2 months. One day I tried to test the "sport" mode and found a problem with that. When accelerating hard from the stop - 1st gear pulls like a hell to the red zone:-), shifts to 2nd and..... SLIPS:-(. Reving up to red zone again, but accelerates poorly (or rathe not accelerating at all, just revving up)...., then sfifts up to 3rd. As the speed not raised up on 2nd gear, on 3rd revs drop to 4k, and accelerates strongly again. All other gears up pull fine again. But that ends with "gearbox fault".
When the transmission oil is cold all works fine - no slips. When going up to the normal operation temperature - 2nd gear slips again.
I read the codes and they are: P1730, P1731, P1798.

And now question to you - my gurus:-) - what to start with???

Thanbk you in advance for your help:-)

See if this for the review of the codes

I would first see if the fluid level is correct.

to close the thread - hydraulic control block was faulty. I put used one from 2001 XJ8 and now it works fine. I can enjoy the full acceleration:-)

That's good to know. Not being familiar with the ZF transmission is the hydraulic control block an external or internal part?

it's internal part. You need to take off the transmission oil pan and here it is:-). But wish you not to have to see that, of course.
