Question +60 Hp from a chip?

This site claims to provide an additional 60 horses, increased mileage, and lower emissions. Anyone have any experience with these aftermarket chips? Are they miracles or just more snake oil?

Uh-oh, think I just answered my own question. Reading further, specifically their terms & conditions, they state all power and mileage claims are based on customer feedback and not actual testing. Enough said.

I see Kalcoauto.com is still in business, there products are even more interesting then Gforce one, have a look at their boost bar (14.5 PSI ):
Boost Bar - $21.25 : KaleCoAuto.com, Your home for the rare, unusual, and hard to find auto parts.

I would donate the amount for a good cause than buying Gforce crap, it’s better for your car and helps out someone else as well.

Gforce "chip" is a resistor. It is connected via two wires to the IAT sensor. The car then thinks the intake air temperature is cooler than it really is. This, in conjunction with a Flux Capacitor and magnets taped to the fuel line is all you need........

These types of generic do-it-all chips have been around a while and I suspect they are mostly placebo. Continuing with the do-it-yourself products (none of which are available for Jaguars) there are the hand-held programmers like Hypertech which I used for my Corvette. There is some data to suggest that these might get you a few horsepower or improved responsiveness. Above that there are the software programs that run on a laptop where you can make changes to a variety of ecm-controlled functions.

The interesting thing is that, especially for the supercharged Jaguars, virtually every article I have seen over the past few years in Jaguar World Monthly where they mention getting a decent torque/horsepower increase over the basic supercharged model it is almost always entirely attributed to some tweaking of the ecm and nothing else. I have wondered why, if it is so easy to crank up the power by some simple programming, why hasn't Hypertech, LT-Edit, or one of the other reputable performance companies offered plug-and-play software for the backyard tweaker to run on a laptop?

I don't know much about the supercharger in my Jaguar, but I have read that the Bluefin device for ECU reprogramming of my BMW 123d really works. They claim going from 204 to 254 horsepower. With turbocharged engines (the 123d has two blowers), it makes sense. I don't try this stuff out however, I'm too scared of ruining the car. If BMW intended it to be that powerful, they would have made it so.

Mostly gimmick. XK8/XKRs are already performance vehicles. You can get a little more out of an ECM tune, but these chips and plug-in reprogrammers do very little to nothing except steal your money from you.

These types of engines (so turbos with pressure regulators) are easy to beef up electronically, as one can regulate the boost pressure. So yes, here you can expect good gains. However it is important to choose a tune that isn't pushing it too much for safety reasons.

On our cars, the boost pressure is fixed, so you can only add more power by ignition timing/mixture. The manufacturer of course builds in a safety margin, so buy using that you could gain about 20hp or so. Trouble is that for the 4.0 cars the market is too small, so very few will try to crack the code to tune the ecu.

KaleCoAuto.com is a Parody Website
If you are expecting to receive something from KaleCoAuto, you are going to be let down. You can however purchase t-shirts, mugs, key chains and similar KaleCoAuto merchandise by visiting the "Get This Stuff" sponsor link to the right.
