Default 97 XK8 ailing locks and alarm system

My remote will not lock or unlock the car. I hear 3 clicks when I push the lock button and nothing happens. I can lock the drivers door using the key, but the passenger does not lock. The alarm seems to randomly go off when I'm doing this too. I replaced the batteries in the fob which didn't help. Any advice? Thanks!

It sounds like your passenger door lock may be seizing up. It may be worth checking your main battery also. If that is ok and no fuses have ruptured then you are left with removing the door cards to investigate further.

Does your driver's door lock and unlock when you press the fob buttons?

If it is just the passenger door that refuses to lock and unlock, I agree with jimbov8 to start with battery and electrical. If those check out, it is probably the door lock actuator inside the door. I had this happen to me recently. It was a pain to get to since the door would not open, but it is doable. Here is my thread on it along with some of the awesome Jag forum member's help on the issue...

I've done further analysis and here is what is happening:

When I push the Lock button on the fob, either I hear 3 clicks and the lights flash once, or nothing happens at all. Neither car door locks.

When I push the Unlock button, either I hear 1 click and the lights flash twice, or nothing happens at all. Neither car door unlocks.

I can operate the locks manually. The trunk opens with the fob, and the lights come on when that button is pushed too.

Thanks for your continued help.

Question, when you drive away do the doors lock automatically?

Take one fob apart and clean the circuit board, also check the rubber behind the button is in tact. Once done, try again. If successful do the other one.

If not, report back.

The doors do not lock when I drive away or the car is put in gear. I clean the fob's circuit board and that did not help.

Ok, to rule out the obvious. Please check fuse F2 10A in the passenger side fuse box. This fuse is the supply to and through the central locking relay.

If that fuse is good then check the relay FC24 in the right hand fascia relays. It is violet in colour.

The 10A fuse was bad. I replaced it and now everything works! Thanks so much.

Hi Everybody, thank you for the very informative post.
I was wondering if anyone had a situation when the 10A central locking fuse keeps popping.
My situation was exactly like the one described by cadtbird. I replaced the 10A fuse and the central locking resumed its normal operation. However, two days later it went back to not locking the doors in response to the fob or to the gear shifter.
Any thoughts as to what can be the underlying problem?

One additional consideration - i had the problem with convertible roof hydraulics and converted it to manual latch operation. Don't know whether this may be a contributing factor to the central locking fuse issue, but thought I'd mention it for completeness sake.

Thank you.
