Default '97 XK8 Convertible top problems.

I have an issue concerning raising and lowering my soft top. (Yes I do this in public!!) every time the top is raised or lowered my car will develop a Stability System Failure fault and an engine fault , most noticably P1229 and P1242. If I shut the car off, pull the keys out of the ignition and let it sit for a few minutes they seem to clear and the car will stay running. it makes no difference if I use the door lock or the console switch to raise /lower the roof, it still happens. I s this a problem with '97 XK8'S ? The top moves freely enough so I can't imagine any issues concerning the hydraulics,

The codes are for a throttle body problem. About the only thing this has in common with the top is the electrical system.

Also, Stability system faults are often the first sign of a dying battery in this car.

The first thing to check is your battery. Have it load tested for free at Advance Auto or Autozone.

Then get some contact cleaner at Radio Shack and remove the throttle body electrical connectors and spray the contacts.

+1 on a suspicious battery.
