Default 98 XJ8 TCM in an 01 XK8

My XK8 was not shifting well- it would upshift too early and wouldn't downshift unless the throttle was all the way down so I grabbed the one off of the XJ8 I was parting, and on a lark tried it out. It works flawlessly.

Any downsides I should worry about? The part numbers were different as well but I figured since it is the same transmission it was worth a shot.

I have long questioned the 'programming' requirements of the various modules. Why would a manufacturer create such a situation other than to incur dealer labor charges? My first introduction to this question was that seat modules seemed to be swappable without much concern about part numbers. My passenger seat module is dramatically different in both part number and year of manufacture and works fine . . . after the board damage was repaired.

Interesting- I wonder what other modules would work?
