98 XK8 stalled on way to work
I decided to drive the Jaguar to work today, and it decided it didn't want to go.
It started fine from the house, got about 15 minutes into the drive, turned off my exit off the interstate, and it died on me while sitting still, and getting ready to turn. Wouldn't catch after that (engine turned over but did not start). I'm having it towed by AAA to the local Jaguar dealer for diagnosis. I just don't have the time to work on it in the coming weeks due to my job. While at the dealer, I also asked them to diagnose my engine noise suspected to be caused by faulty primary timing chain tensioners. I replaced secondary tensioners a few weeks ago and did not totally resolve the noise. I hope I can get it back to tip top shape soon.
To me, the car just dying like it did is the same type of issue as when a fuel pump dies in other cars that I have had...without warning, it just quits. I will continue with updates.
As a supplement, this is the same type of issue I am experiencing, except my fuel tank is about 3/4 full.

Flow Jaguar off Wendover is where I go. Great service department there, know be by name.
Just received the diagnosis from Jaguar. Fuel pump/pressure great. It is a faulty throttle body. The butterfly is not closing properly/tightly enough and providing for too much air into TB. Dealer cost would be $1,650 ($1,350 for TB + $300 labor).
Mr. C.J. replacement cost is much cheaper, I just ordered used complete TB from ebay for $100+Shipping + my free labor rate. Should be able to turn it around by next weekend when the part arrives and sell my old TB for rebuild.
Glad its just throttle body, fuel pump cost + labor would have been much more.

That's good news indeed. Keep us posted on how it goes....
Glad to hear that you like Flow Jaguar in Greensboro. I really liked Bob Dunn Jaguar in Greensboro, but Flow bought them last year. No experience with Flow yet, so it's good to know that you trust them. Next time I'm in Greensboro and need any dealer-only parts, I'll stop by....

My car was purchased new and serviced at the dealership in Greenboro (now Flow) since it was new. I am the third owner and will go there if I cannot fix it myself.
I have been there twice so far and was very impressed with the service and the staff.

Clean the TB. Carbon is causing the throttle plate to stick open a little bit, which lets air into the engine during idle. It should be shut tight. Take off the 5" black tubing at the TB and use brake cleaner to scrub away the carbon. Shine a light down there. It should be tight. gordo
Thanks, will try cleaning the TB first, as described, when I get the car back. I'm letting it visit with all the new Jaguars at the dealer for a few days until I am home to take arrival when I have it towed back home.
