Question 99 convertible evap mess

I removed the LF wheel house, and determined that things were good there. Solenoid winding is not open, and vacuum hose was good.

I moved back to the rear of the car to check the charcoal canister(s), and found 2 of them. The one on the left side had 2 plastic connections with o-rings and one of the connections was a T fitting coming from above. On the right side there was a charcoal canister with a pipe coming from the left side canister on top, and a hose on the lower opening of the canister going to a copper tube, substituting for something that was removed, because I have a 2 wire connector and a small hose hanging where the copper tube is. I imagine it is a vacuum or pressure hose.

I had a fault for an open circuit in the evap system. I jumpered out the hanging plug, erased the fault, and that fault went away. I just don't know what is supposed to be where the plug and hose belong. This is the last fault I need to repair in order to have my emission test.

Please give me a part number or some help as to what is supposed to be where the copper tube is hose clamped(spliced) in the line, or why there are 2 charcoal canisters on a 20 gallon tank connected in series?

It's hell working without a manual, and a computer that's too small to load large files......

Thanks in advance....You guys are life savers.....Be cool....Mike

Mike, if you haven't done it yet, you need to ask SNG to seen you catalog. That will help identify your parts and give the #'s and price. It give a good break down of what you are looking at. They also are a sponsor and will give 10% discount if you mention you are a member.

You have 2 leads on that wheel well one to the purge valve and the other to a marker that you may not have so that lead is just there. The purge valve you need if you need it is Jaguar PURGE CONTROL VALVE - LJB1515AB

Why do you think you need a new purge valve? What are the codes?

Gus....On my car, that device is located inside of the left front fender, behind the wheel house, that ohmed out OK.

The original code was for an open circuit in the evap system. When I saw that plug hanging, I kinda knew what the problem was, and when I jumpered the circuit at the plug, I was able to erase the code. It hasn't returned.

The device that is missing is behind the rear axle assembly, under the tank, between the two charcoal canisters. That is where someone inserted a piece of copper tubing, and left a 2 wire plug and small rubber hose hanging. I just got my catalog from SNG yesterday, and didn't have a chance to look at it. I was working on the convertible until 10, and hadn't eaten yet. I posted pretty late. I will look in the catalog......Thanks.....Mike

As you said, the canister close valve must be reinstalled to pass emissions. This device will activate during emissions self-test of the EVAP system.

Without this device your emissions tests will never close (which is indicated by OBDII code P1000 going to P1111). This process can take a number of drive cycles and miles, once repaired.

Gus....You have the exact same car, that I do. If it wouldn't be too much of a bother, could you send me what your setup looks like on the right side, just behind and inside the right rear wheel, or get me the part number of that valve? The SNG catalog doesn't have a complete listing for the evap system for the car, and the Jaguar wants a minimum of 2 hours at $120 an hour to look at the evap system, I diagnosed.

The parts guy is even an a$$hole, only wanting to order a part I can't afford new from Jaguar, or telling me the part number even if I pay him, like he is selling the trinity research for the atomic bomb. He even wants to sell me the factory clamps. We used to help folks(including the independents) out at VW Porsche Audi, for free, and I left the dealership system in early 95. I don't know what much is other than a pcv valve, charcoal canister, and intake solenoid, as far as evap systems go.

My disability income, after I pay my bills is only about $230 a month, and the magic unknown new Jaguar part is over twice that. With the part number, or even a name of the part, I could put the word out on car-part.com, or Ebay, and get the part, before the end of the month, before the BMV charges me a $15 late fee on top of everything else.

Thank you everyone in advance. I'm almost there........Be cool....Mike

I finally got a parts man to talk, at a dealer a couple of hours away. The parts I need are the Pressure control valve #CBC7714 OBSOLETE, and the Purge control valve #LJB1515AA or LJB1515AB. One supercedes the other. I am also needing a diagram of how the hoses go. It looks like I will be using newer parts and adapting them to my purpose, because Jaguar only supplies unused older parts for 10 years. That is the bare minimum the government requires. VW was still selling early bug parts 30 years after the cars were reproduced, thanks to factories in central and South America.

Thanks in advance....Mike
