Default 99 XK8 84K mi in Atlanta $4.5K

This car is on craigs list. It is not running, supposedly needs secondary chain and tensioners. It has a Texas salvage title, said to be from sheet metal damage accident, the cats have been relpaced but no emission test. The front seats and console need recovering, trans. has recent torque converter.
I think I am going to pass, just mentioning in case some one is interested. Exterior is grey metallic and looks good.

If they drop the price to $2000.00 it might be worth rebuilding, but the salvage title reduces the value.

If you are in the market for something like this, I have a 2000 convertible Xkr, engine overheated and dropped 3 valve seats, so needs either new heads or the current ones rebuilding, $5500. Clean Florida title.

I agree with RCSign. If it was RUNNING with a salvage title it might be worth $4500, but it's not running. They say it needs new tensioners, but if they tried to crank it with busted tensioners they probably broke some valves, too. That means that it probably needs a whole new engine.

If you get a car with a salvage title, you're dumping money into an empty pit that nobody else will want to pay you for if you choose to sell later on.

At $4500, I'd avoid because you can get clear title cars for not much more.

I just wonder who makes the decisions to declare a car a "salvage vehicle." Especially since it's just a mechanical issue. You can pick up a good engine for $2500-3000.

I saw a beautiful XK8 in New Jersey a year ago on EBay that just needed a rear bumper cover replacement--$1,600 total repairs. It had a salvage title. Cars and trucks (of all brands) are all over the place with salvage titles and very little damage.

Most states require a business purchasing a vehicle with a salvage title for rebuilding to have special business licenses--salvage dealer or "rebuilder" dealer. My local body shop doesn't evenb have the rebuilder license due to too many regulations and special insurance requirements to get the license.

In my state, an individual cannot rebuild a car and get a title. In some other states, an individual can get a salvage title changed over to a "rebuilt title", but they must present the car to the state inspector with before and after pictures, bills of sale on all parts from new parts dealers or a salvage parts yard that documents the source (serial #) of where the used parts came from. Then, the car still doesn't really have a clear title.

Sounds as if this Atlanta car needs a trip to Coventry West in Lithonia.
