OK whatever coolant I put in the cannister leaks out down the back of the engine. I can't see precisely where, but am I correct that the whole hose assembly gets replaced - the octopus hose? I had to lift the engine to replace the subframe and an engine mount and they probably pinched the hose. Any recommendations on the best place to get the hose assembly? I've read the threads and am tempted to do it myself with the hose clamp tool - any yea's or nay's?? I understand there is a no return valve in the hose - can I drive the car a few miles safely? I recently replaced the thermostat tower and it had to get really bad before i figured out it wasnt leaking in front of the engine...

I had a slow leak back there that probably came from the octopus. One summer day one of the check valves separated completely and that means a tow home.

I used the nice hose clamp tool -->Craftsman hose clamp tool <-- worth it's weight in gold. It is much easier to get to the back of the engine if you take the throttle body off. It will save time over the whole job.

Mine opened up at around 130k miles. YMMV.

I got my replacement from the Jag outfit in Texas that is a sponsor for the forum. $Couple hundred and change. While you're back there check the security of the heater pump mounts.
