ABS Module refurb ( uk )
Hi,
Does anybody have the info of a UK company that I can ship my ABS module to for a refurb?
My car has failed its MOT today on the ABS problem and the wheel speed sensors have already been replaced, so I'm assuming that the garage will find it's the ABS module - I'd like to get details of the company to send it to in advance as my MOT runs out at the end of the month.

Have you ruled out the wheel speed sensor harnesses? They have a tendency to get stretched, get brittle, then crack and separate. Take a close look at them if you have not already done so....
The rubber boots on the sensor ends of the harnesses of my wife's 2006 XK8 split and separated a couple of years ago. I fixed them with a tube of neutral-cure silicone, building up a big ball of the stuff all around the boots. I inspect them at every oil & filter change / tire rotation to ensure that they continue to hold up to the elements. I have added more silicone once since then just to be sure. According to my wife, the ABS warning light has never flashed again since I did this. I also clean the wheel speed sensors every time I do a tire rotation (6,000-mile intervals) just to be sure....

The ABS has been acting bizarrely for a while now - it's started overreacting to light braking, as though I'm doing an emergency stop, then throwing an error on the dash. I don't know if that rules out the harnesses or not, but I'll leave it up to the garage to determine the fault. I just wanted to get the details of a recommended company ready so I can arrange a refurb if required as soon as possible.

You appear determined to replace/rebuild the ABS Module but I'd always reach for the code reader before reaching for the cheque book! It'll have to be somewhere with a scantool which can read 'C' (Chassis) codes.
As Jon has already advised, the wheel speed sensor harnesses are a regular problem area.
If you definitely do need a module rebuild, ECUsolutionwales may be able to help:

+1 on the harness. Had an intermittent problem with a harness becuse a wire had pulled out of a connector crimp. Also check the reluctor rings, they can corrode or even become damaged. Also check the sensors are properly seated, again corrosion can push them back a little and stop them operating fully. Do you have the old sensors? They could be checked and if OK kept for a rainy day or sold. ABS module is usually soldered joints. Plenty of stickies on here!
