Default ABS and TRAC warning light

Recently my 2001 XK8 has shown a message stating ABS and TRAC not available. When I turn the key off it clears and may not return again for a few days. Is this a safety issue?

This is the second time you've posted the same question in Jaguar Forums Feedback & Suggestion Center forum. The Jaguar Forums Feedback & Suggestion Center forum is NOT for technical questions, it's for posts about the forum.

I've moved your question to XK8/XKR forum.

Your previous post was also moved to XK8/XKR forum where it received some good advice:

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...ilable-140779/

When the ABS and TRAC not available message appears it is advising that ABS and TRAC are not operating. The vehicle will handle as if these driver aids were not fitted.

The most likely cause of your problem is the battery is going bad. The warning will usually come on right after starting and then go away without setting a CEL or repair code. You will probably find it only happens after the car has sat unused for more than a day.

If it turns out to be C1095 then you will need to reflow the solder joints on the circuit board. This subject has been beaten to death.

Search for C1095 ABS fault.

The JEPC replacement part number for your car is JLM21323.
The number on the ABS module housing will NOT be that number.

This particular fault can also be caused by dirty wheel speed sensors. You remove them (one 8mm bolt) and scrub them with a dish soap and water mix using an old toothbrush. Let them dry before you re-install them. Reverend Sam posted a video a number of years back showing how to access, remove, and scrub them....

Check the condition of their wiring harnesses while you're there. The harness insulation tends to degrade which allows rainwater ingress into the wiring and can also cause these faults....

I, too, fixed my 2001 XK8 - identical symptoms - by cleaning the wheel speed sensors. In fact, I just cleaned the front ones. Easy to remove with an 8mm wrench, a mirror, a flashlight and a small flat blade screwdriver as a lever to dislodge the one that was a bit sticky.
