Abs/traction light comes on over bump
I need some help please. Recently my 2002 XK8 has started to act up on me. When driving and I go over a bump, my ABS light and No Traction indicator go off. Even the power cuts down a little. Very strange to me. Yesterday I was on the interstate using my cruise control. I came to a bridge and went over a slight bump (the part where the pavement meets the bridge). The ABS light and No Traction went off. The cruise control deactivated. Please reply if any of you have had issues with this. I am a little freaked out about this. It only seems to happen innermentently. Wheel speed sensor? Traction Control sensor? Thanks up front for any insight or direction you can provide. EROC.

Sounds more like a power issue to me. I've read in the forum before where low voltage can trigger some faults.
Plus with your cruise kicking out at the same time, I'd check your battery connections first and watch the battery guage to see if it drops when you hit the bumps. Maybe alternator but sounds more like a connection problem to me.

cruise control being deactivated could be a brake micro switch, but coupled with the DSC on/off sounds very much like a short in the ABS module. Could very well be the start of a bad solder joint we often see in these systems. Check the simple stuff first, power...especially if you noticed a slight drop in engine power before.

I am thinking that this is more of a Traction Control or ABS issue. It occurs without the cruise control on. I have full power. The power issue I was trying to describe would be more like when the traction control would active some sort of reduction for grip. Heck, I don't know. All know is that when I sometimes hit a bump, this thing goes off. Like I said before, it seems intermintent. I have just turned 62,000 miles and haven't had this issue, ever. I haven't had any issues after 4 beautiful years of ownership. Please chime in.

It's very possibly an ABS issue, I just thought you may want to check the cheap stuff first. How old is your battery, if it's newer maybe the didn't lock it down and it's bouncing around, didn't lock the terminals tight enough, etc. I had mine replaced and found they had put the battery hold down in upside down and it was floating.
ABS issues can become very expensive, $2250-2900 for part alone and if you need the pump too it will be another $2K +. Best thing to do is take it to jag next time it happens and have them look up the error. I'm sure they'll charge you $135.00 but they're the only one that can read the special jag fault codes for abs and trans errors. Unless you know someone with the software required to read them.
There are other alternatives to new parts like rebuild for $300-$700. One I found had a lifetime warranty for $520.00. I opted for one from a junkyard with a 6mo. warranty as I messed up mine trying to fix the solder joints. Solder was easy, getting it apart was tough. So just proceed with care.
We are not experts here but there are a few proffesionals that helps us. Just fellow jag lovers who share are joys and woes and try to help each other.
Good luck

Mine started this way, the first time it was hitting a bump while accelerating on an entrance ramp, no ABS though. The same for the second time, no TRAC/ASC, but ended up in limp mode. It cleared up while turned off waiting for the stop light to change. New battery fix for the first and second drive (at least I got it home). It's 99 degrees here know so I haven't had any reason to work on it yet, clean sensors and connectors.
I'm still not 100% sure about the battery issue. After I got home from it's last outing I put the new battery on a 2 amp charger. After 2 days it was still reading 2 amps. I put the old battery on the charger and check it 2 days later and it was drawing zero amps. Both batteries show a little over 12 volts w/o a load.
Per the service records this car had the same problem in 2007. A new battery fixed it.
