advice on engine check light ??

Hi, I have recently bought a 1996 xk8 and today noticed a warning light. It is the ENGINE CHECK light and is coloured amber. Please note that this is only visible with the key turned to one position before the position that starts the engine. It goes out straight away when I start the engine and the car is driving well.

Does anybody know whether I should be worried about this or not?? The fact it is not visible when the car is running makes me think that I perhaps shouldn't worry but then why is it showing at all??

Any help appreciated

that is normal for every car.. only if it comes on when driving you shud be concerned

That is the indicator that lets you know your check engine light is working. You should worry if it DOESN'T turn on. Happened to me in my Infiniti. Replaced the bulb and sure enough, the check engine light was on.
