With a recommended Air Filter change interval of 40K miles on the 4.2 litre, you can't be looking to save money.

Is this for a performance improvement?

I change mine every 15,000 miles. So performance and trying to stay away from the $40 cost each.

Unless you only drive in heavy city traffic or live in very dusty conditions, 15k changes aren't really necessary. However if it makes you comfortable, go for it.

Changing filters that often would easily allow you to avoid the pricier options. So either consider the K&N filters or use a quality aftermarket version like a NAPA Gold. The K&N is a one-time investment (plus costs for oiling the panel) and the NAPA units are in the $20 range. I have used K&Ns in the past, but have switched back to a NAPA filter for the Blue Cat. Did not see any seat-of-the-pants performance gains with the K&N in the Audis.

I use Purolator or NAPA filters as well. I just follow the Jaguar maintenance schedule for 40,000-mile change intervals. I buy the filters on sale or with a coupon for twenty bucks or so. No issues....
