That seems a good option. Not sure about shipping, but I imagine they can guide on that.
If they are specialists, I'd be tempted to send what you have as-is, along with the connectors that you'll need to retrieve from behind the steering wheel. They may be beyond repair, but at least the company will know what they are.

For me too. Apparently, they are having a revival (although not as spectacular as vinyl).
The electrical guide implies two connectors before the one to the cassette. If that's the case, your missing connector ends will be attached to those. Seems like overkill, though. maybe just performs the role of an adaptor.
I'm pretty sure the car will complain about the missing airbag if you use it.

Ok - the first step was successful - I managed to get the connectors off the airbag unit. You have to press against the "nose" on both sides of the connectors and then lift 'em vertically. You have to start with the black one (because both "noses" are accessible). Then the grey one. Mine were stuck so I used a slot screwdriver to leverage them out. Worked out but the black plug is broken as suspected... I will now find the connector on the other side at the cassette behind the steering wheel and send the wire to the Dutch guys, hoping they can replace / repair the wire..... Will keep you posted!

Ok, after severely burning my hand when fixing chicken (nb: the pan-handle gets really hot after 20 minutes in the oven) I left-handedly took off the steering wheel and uncovered the cassette. Unfortunately there is no separate connector for the airbag wires but rather a single connector for both the airbag and the steering wheel buttons. See picture. I double checked with a pictures from the internet with the same part number (LJE 6470 AB)
However, I cannot remove the connector. At least not with my left hand without further tools. And I was afraid to break something.
Thus my questions:
1) does anybody know whether or not this connector is removable? And if so, how to do it?
2) If the connector is not removable, I will have to remove the whole cassette. Is there any advice how to do that?
Those cassettes, complete with wiring harnesses seem to be cheap and easy to find second hand, so I have to say I wouldn't consider trying to repair the connector at this point and instead just get a replacement as others have suggested. That black plastic part may be a connector or it may be for strain relief on the wires - you could try and pull it out with pliers, knowing that the cassette is already junk, but I can't see how it makes sense to try and do a repair if the wires have broken at that spot, rather than just pulled out of a connector.
Pain ($$$spent) is a powerful teacher. Unless pulling that connector, retrieving the pin-connectors inside, re-connecting them to the wires, and re-inserting the pin-connectors into their seats inside the connector was painfulllly easy, and could be done with a confident future/use - I would SPRING for the "new" part and keep it moving. That's just me. And I do,,, I try pretty hard to "fix" stuff...

Ok - I get it: majority is against fiddling and for replacement. Since its a safety device it makes sense. However, I hate throwing things away and the casette looks pristine apart from the airbag issue....
But I bow to the prevailing opinion: Could anybode guide me to a explanation how to remove the cassette? Sorry for stupid questions, I'm still new to Jaguar coming from Mercedes SL where things were quite different...
