Default Alternative Parts Source? For my control arms and shocks: xk8

I got an estimate of $700 for 2 rear shocks and $1,200 for two front control arms from the dealer, for my '98 xk8. Is there an alternate parts source (like on the web or by phone) I can order these things from? I need them to be high quality and right the first time, nothing that's not a perfect fit.

Any recommendations would be appreciated!

Do you actually need two NEW control arms (wishbones)? Normally, they just need new bushings. I ordered mine from Rock Auto.

A number of us have replaced the OEM shocks on our cars with the German-made Bilstein shocks and have been extremely satisfied with them. I purchased a set of rear Bilsteins for my wife's XK8 about a month ago from FCP Euro. Great prices and great service. Call them at (877) 634-0063. Their website is fcpeuro.com. Ask them about control arms as well.

Another good parts source is SNG Barratt Group. They are a forum sponsor. Mention that you are a jaguarforums.com member and you'll get a 10% discount. Call them at (800) 452-4787. Their website is sngbarratt.com.

Try the sticky parts thread at top of page. I've had good luck with Welsh for new parts and Autobahn kid for used. I've also found many parts are available locally if you ask.

The OEM shocks are also Bilsteins.
With the black aftermarket Bilsteins the handling of the car is a little bit
stiffer.
When i change my shocks i reimported them from US,
they cost half the price than in Germany.

Glad to see you are with us on finding a reasonable price on parts as you were being ripped off. $700 would be a bit high for electric control shocks, I hope you find a indy to get the work done.
On that note, about mid winter might be a good time for Jon89 and I to make a trip that way, what say Jon. It's a beautiful area, my son lived there in Jupiter and we always played PGA National.
Wasn't there another fellow close by, he could lead you with any luck.

I'm pretty sure there is a member here who has started selling rebuilt arms. Might want to do a search for who it is as it escapes me now. I think he keeps a set in stock then you send him your old ones after the fact. No reason to replace the arm when you can just replace the bushings and ball joints for 1/3 of the price.

I wouldn't replace a control arm unless it is damaged (bent in an accident or something similar). Just replace the bushings and/or ball joint. SNG Barratt, FCP Euro, Rock Auto, etc, should have what you need.

That's what you have to pay for the 4 shocks in Germany.
