Default Alternator removal

I am in the middle of attempting to replace my alternator. Using the JagRepair.com instructions, I have gotten everything disconnected and ready to remove the unit. I worked on it a good 45 minutes, thinking it was VERY TIGHT, until I realized the 2001MY has a bushing in the back (side towards rear of car) mounting ear. This is what's keeping it from coming out.

There is very little room in the back to work. I have tried putting a punch and a long 1/4" socket extension in the hole and tapping it out. No luck. There is maybe an 1/8" sticking out, but I can't get a hold on it with anything.

Help! Is there some magic to getting this bushing out? Any suggestions? Plus, how long is this thing? I'm hoping short. The blue cat is DOA at the moment and I'm in desparate need of some expertise here. 6 hours into a 2 hour project and no end in site.

OK, no replies so far. Still looking for a solution after a couple of hours trying different methods. Was ready to resort to a tap & die removal, but cannot get enough room to get the cutter into the hole.

I can't be the only one who has hit this problem (or can I?).

p.s. I faintly hear the sound of laughter every time I fail in budging the bushing. Is this the spirit of Lucas? I thought Ford exorcised this demon.

Hi Jag #4
I started a new thread - XK (X100) Alternator R&I also Twin Fans & Shroud R&I.

The Alternator R&I PDF file in the tread shows the rear spacing bushing in a diagram on page 4 of the PDF file.
