Your car does not have a transmission dip stick. The only way to check it is to put in a lift and open the fill plug along with a few other things like proper temperature.

That sounds familiar. I pulled my records and I had this happen to my Coupe in 2004. Hear is a list of what they used to fix the problem.

1EA LNC-3380AA HARNESS
2EA. JLM-020212 O-RING
1EA. JLM-020213 CLIP-RETAINING
1EA. JLM-020204 GASKET SUMP
1EA. JLM-020216 FILTER SUMP
1EA. JLM-020217 O-RING
2EA. JLM-020237 OIL-AUTO TRANS

This is how they wrote up the ticket:

Customer states high gearbox temperature light came on message center. Diagnosis procedure. Use WDS to check for codes. Found code P0711. Root cause. Intermittent open in trans fluid temp sensor. Failed/defective part. Trans internal harness repair procedure. Replace harness, clear codes and test drive 7 miles. OK. Technician concern code, 28 (2.8 hours).

Sorry I cannot give the price because this was covered under extended service warranty. I hope this answers your question. That is if you pulled a P0711 code.

Wow, that felt good to give an intelligent response for once.

Thought the transmissions were different between 98 and 2004?

The job was done in 2004 but I think Daddy has a '99.

I changed a bunch of those 5HP24 internal harnesses for the temp sensor fault. Get a new harness and that should fix your problem unless you know the fluid was actually overheated from a blocked cooler pipe or stressing the gearbox by RACING or climbing a mountain towing a trailer.

I STILL DO have a 1999 Coupe and the repair was done in 2004. The car had 32000 when the repair was done if that matters.

Default amber alert

Thanks to all you guys, very helpful advise..
Do you think that it is o.k. to keep on driving the car? The message comes and goes when I turn the car off for a while. and the car shifts very smoothly.

It is hard to say all is good. You never know if the information displayed is real or not.

It's your car and you do whatever you want but I had to repair the car when it came into the dealer under factory warranty and I would recommend replacement if it came into my repair shop.
