Another method for lower ball joint insertion on XKR
Yes, the one with the relief angle on the back!
I’ve just fitted 2-off using the following method:
Made a seasoned hardwood wedge to go on the back of the relief angle, so the back is parallel with the front face (aluminium or plastic would do). Then made a wrap around strap to stop the wedge sliding off when located in cheap temu 6t press with appropriate master ball joint cups etc. carefully place strap and wedge in situ and mark up hole positions to align with those on wishbone arm. Drill holes with a stepper drill. Note holes for n/s and o/s are di. Then fit high tensile restraining bolt.
Freeze ball joint, clean up internal taper with dremel and carbide tip, warm wishbone end and grease joint before pressing. Check alignment and hey presto. Note, the advantage of very hard wood over alternatives is that the last couple of mm of the sleeve protrude beyond the relief. In practice the wedge either lifted, deformed or both to accommodate this. Good luck. Position the wedge Make the restraining strap. Note - cut a chamfer on the wedge corners to allow for strap radius on bend. It must be a tight snug fit. I used the same strap for o/s and n/s with bespoke holes matched to each. Yes, it really did work.
