I was just adding some coolant to the car and checking for leaks when I found this sat loose just above the supercharger.

Any ideas what it is and where it should shouldI can check?

That is a Temperature Sensor. Look up this part number LNA1600AA

Considering I was given a "coolant low" warning recently is it fair to assume I still have one installed?

 

Surely if you didn't have one installed there would be a puddle of coolant under your car? Your temp gauge would be pegged also, The coolant low warning is from the sensor in the coolant filler tank, which is known to fail.

 

Everyone correct me if I'm wrong. but I think that Coolant sensor goes here on an XKR ? Unsure- I've never removed it myself

Someone replaced the sensor and seems to have left the old one as a souvenir.
