Default Anybody using their XK8 as a daily driver?

I'm within a month or two of getting an '07 XK8 convertible. My wife and I keep three vehicles around, but I would want my XK8 to be my primary. We live in Texas so there isn't much of a Winter to speak of (no snow and very little cold) and we don't get much rain either. With that in mind, is it a wise choice to have one of these as a daily driver?

Also, if I purchasea 100K extended factory warranty, whatcan I expect my maintenance cost to bebeyond what the warranty would cover? Does anyone have a factory warranty and feel it wasn't worth what was paid for it? Anything else I should know about a late-model XK8, but I'm not smart enough on them [yet] to ask or look for? Thanks in advance!

If you have bluetooth, get external mic. Water leaking onto passenger feet, (ac drain mod repair), And are you kidding? use the car everyday. Yes the 100k warranty is worth it from the customer side, but not the techs side since it short changes us on time for repairs........So nah, I wouldnt get it

I drive my '01 XKR convertible as a daily driver in TX so I can recommend it as a great way to make life a lot more fun. I have the top down 90% of the time. I am not sure what the warranty might cover but I would definitely get the extended warranty on these vehicles as they are significantly more expensive to maintain. I have spent more on this car in a year than I have on my Lincoln Mk8 in ten years. The phrase you have to pay to play definitely applies here. The newer model you are looking at should require fewerservice tripsthan my '01 but I still enjoy the car a great deal. Just make sure you have some extra cash in reserve when it does require a trip to the shop. Enjoy your new baby - there's nothing else like it!

Same recommendation here, I drive mine everyday to work and use it for everything else too. I put 35,000 miles on it in almost 2 years, and it has ran great. Warranty items have popped up, and I estimate $3k in costs if it came out of my pocket. I'm glad it came with the Jag Select Edition warranty. Well worth it!

I just bought my 2000 XK8 and a 4 year 60K mile warranty to go with it. There's 27602 on the clock. I wouldn't own one without the warranty. Jaguar is very proud of their parts so you pay top dollar for them.

I have a 2006 XK8 that I drive everyday and it's great. The only issue with the car (which you won't have in TX) is that it isn't a very good winter condition car what with performance tires and all. So long as there isn't snow on the ground, you'll be fine.

I have a 97 vert that I use daily. It was purchased last spring with 65k miles. I did however, spend a couple of weeks and $2000 to fix all the known problems and issues... even if the car did not display any symptoms of said problems. Eg. I swapped out the old plastic impeller water pump and the thermoplastic thermostat housing for metal upgrades even though the car displayed no signs of overheating. This preventive maintenance has so far proven to provide me with a reliable daily driver. gordo

Like rihock said, NOT in the snow.

Or the rain, for that matter, with Pirelli P-0's anyway!

And not in the rain with Dunlop SP Sport 5000 either!

The XK is more like having a fine mistress on the side. Why would you want to ruin a great thing by marrying your mistress. Keep your XK as a weekend car.

Bought my 97 XK8 in 2001 and it has been my only car. During the first 3 years I owned it, it was the only thing that kept me sane because although my job was uber-stressful and I routinely worked 70+ hours a week, I was always grinning from ear to ear on the drive home from the office @ 9 or 10 pm.

Can you believe my dealer rep, for certain unselfish reasons I am sure, told me to keep driving the car as much as I like. He believes that alot more issues arise from cars that sit too long. In a weird way, it makes sense i suppose.

In many ways that is true. I be sure to put my Rolls on the highway for a few miles each week. An old very low mileage car can be much more troublesome than one with good maintained high miles.

...tell that to the person you're trying to sell the car to (not that I am). Buyers want low mileage cars, no matter the maintenance records. I totally agree with you though Lew.

I have been driving my 98 daily for 2 years now. It is my only car and now has 122000miles on it. The previous owners took good care of the car and i enjoy it every day. i live in Biloxi MS so no snow or cold weather but lots of rain and no leaks at all. Top fits great. I did the cooling upgrade and the ball joints are being replaced next week. tires and oil changes and new leather seats are all i have done

35K in 2 years....I bought my 2000 XK8 in November 2009. It had 27K on the clock. 14 months later (January 2010) I have 57K on the clock.

The ABS circuit board fix and a throttle body replacement were done (installed a TB from a 2003 engine). No other problems popped up. Runs like a champ!

My XK's have been DD for 3 years now. Of course, my commute is principally to lunch over 10 miles of twisty mountain roads.

As soon as I get the 5L V8 installed in the '82 Volvo it may replace the Jaguar occasionally.

Life is good!
