I recently spoke with the owner of Nameless Performance about their cat replacements. For around $850.00 , replacement cats that take the 90 degree bend out of the stock units are available. The 97' has the acute bend and replacement does produce approx. 12-15 HP according to Nameless.

The sound is greatly improved because their cat utilizes 200 cell versus 600 cell for the stock units. Nice people to talk with and seemingly very professional.

I would like to hear from others who have gone the Jegs or aftermarket route in replacing the cats w/high flow cats and doing their own fitting to the car respective of sound and power increases.

Funny stuff plums. Don't stop bro ..

Guys ... Why, on God's green earth, do you Need to draw attention to yourselves, if you are driving a Jag. Still water runs deep ... you are in a rig with tires rated at 183mph, and your speed is chip limited to 155mph ... you don't need to meet the girls that are clueless ... (nice beemer babe) really.

Now ... this of course, is just personal opinion, based on .. personal experience. I came back from Nam .. gotta 55 Chevy w/munci 4spd .. put on some friggen awesome pipes .. I was 21. You are driving a Jag! ... bro ... you already gotit goin' on man.

2003 XK8 convertible .. only 2,280 made .. for the whole planet. Damn hard to find even in Marin county, amidst the sea of beemers and porches on 101. If ya really want to draw attention, get a '99 F-350 7.3 ... that'l work. Now ... if somebody comes up with tuned collectors witha crossover (switching from stock to open) that would be of interest. Problem is, there is No Dang room under there. Hearing myself for four hours to the City, would be a drag.

Have Fun .. Be Safe

I have these fitted to my track XK8, and the engine is run on a stand alone system, I binned the Jag ECU years ago.

But I do know of a couple guys who run cat bypass pipes and they have had no problems, however they do have to refit the cats for inspection time each year

As far as supplier goes.... that would be me
They cost around $300 from what I can remember, but they are only a simple tube with a flange on, Nameless could make these up very easily

Do cats make any noise as they age and get more restrictive? I'm wondering if this periodic buzzing I've been hearing from underneath the car is from 10+ year old cats with 83K+ miles on them creating some back pressure in the chamber with the small throttle reductions.

Depending on the internal construction, some cats fall apart inside and the pieces start bouncing around.

BUT, also consider things like loose heatshields bouncing against the exhaust. Sounds much the same. Much easier to deal with ... just rip the remaining pieces off with your bare hands ... makes you feel like Samson

We checked the heatshields, they were fine so we didn't have to destroy any of them. The cats I have are oem, so are they the type to get noisey?

XkRacer, I'm in MS and there's NO YEARLY exhaust inspection! just head/turn signal & brake lights, horn, wipers... I will take your pix to my local indy shop and see how much to replicate your design(with your blessings of course)..! On my 300zx & Lexus SC400 it was a straight pipe cut in and out... easy as pie.

I'm getting another Jaguar within the next few weeks IF, the right one is found. It's either an 03' XJ8/R or 04' XJ8 (freakin air suspension sucks so bad but mk8 has solved that ) or a 03'-04' XK coupe preferably(my only concern is car seat room)...

I really really want the XK!

It's definitely not a straight pipe cut. The OEM ones need to be completely removed. They're bulky and extremely heavy. Worst cat design I've ever seen.

hey XK Racer, how about measurements for those pipes? Here in Penna., we can go Classic Plates and by-pass emissions ( over 15 years old). Would work fine; power increase. I stuck a mirror under my car.....worse looking design I have ever seen! They have a hard 90 in them .....a huge no-no for exhaust flow. The picture helps but we need some dimensions. THANKS!!

Depending on year will depend if you have flange type or straight pipe cats, early XKs had slip joints on to the main system, later XKs had a flange fitting.

You need to make a jig, very simple out of wood, you use your original cat to make a frame around it, mark and drill the holes where necessary, get your precut flanges and bolt them to your frame, then join the lot up with some pipe.

I have seen this done with straight pipe with slits cut into it and then bent accordingly, welded up, mine were done on a bender.... dont forget you will need some lambda sensor bosses

Feel free to use the pics it is not rocket science
