Hey all, hope all is just swell.

After reading the extremly detailed XK coolant flush pdf listed on the how-to from this site, I was going to accomplish this soon after reading all the bad stuff about using standard coolant vs dexcool if the jag is designed to use it.

In this document, is there any consideration of the atmospheric bottle? I flushed the system about a year ago with the green stuff, so I definitely want to try to get it all out of there. I was thinking of just emptying the atmospheric bottle, performing the flush, and after all is said and done topping it off. I'm just concerned about mixing green and orange after performing another flush. Any ideas on this?

 

It's a fair amount of work to get to the Atmospheric Recovery Bottle as the wing liner has to be removed:



I've rarely found more than an inch or two of fluid in the bottle with the engine cold although there's almost always a slimy deposit in the bottom.

It certainly doesn't want to be "topped off" if you do decide to clean it out or you'll find coolant coming out of the overflow when the engine next gets up to temperature.

In that case, i'll "inject" some coolant in the resovoir and let it be.

 

Yeah it he coolant tank retrofit is in a service bulletin in my '97-'03 workshop manual. It has three updates in it and it is definitely a retrofit. The retrofit tank doesn't have a nipple as in the tank view. The removed the nipple and there is a hole there to slide in a tube.

I have an 2000 XJ8 and feel I ha e some leak from the recovery tank as the coolant goes from expansion tank to recovery but dont think back but see drips of coolant under the tank . From above do i assume you get to the expansion tank through wheel arch lining removed. My outlet goes straight into the top of the tank.

 

Lack of recovery from the recovery tank is probably a failing cooling reservoir cap.

 

The liner has to be removed to access the Atmospheric Recovery Bottle. The Expansion Tank is in the engine compartment.

Have two expansion tank caps and the Jag guy here at
Sovereign Motors in Adelaide who is very good tested my spare one and said it was fine so put that one on actually think both are fine but could buy another one .
