Default auto changer error message: CD E-01

Hi everyone

There I was enjoying my lovely new jag when the CD auto-changer went up the swanny!

I was on CD2 and tried going back to CD1 and got the error messag CD E-01. After that, nothing I did made any difference. I tried ejecting the CDs and, although it made the noise (suggesting the eject motor thing is working) it did not come out. I have isconnected the battery to se if re-coding the player worked, but it did't. Does anyone have any ideas?

The car is a 1999 XKR and it is the jag-fitted autochanger.

Many thanks everyone

Karl

Default Error code E-01

I had this problem in my 02 XJR. I figured it out today. I took a flat head screw driver, opened up that little sliding door, and stuck the end of it right where the case that holds the cd's and the player meet, so it seperated the two a bit. I then did that in a few locations, it took a few seconds, but i got it in the right spot pushing up hard enough, and the case just popped out! Saved me A LOT of money!!! hope this works for you!

Default CD changer E 01 code

I have this code all the time. Even had the Jag dealer fix it, when I picked the car up and turned the ignition on guess what E01 and that was after they said they had put a new CD changer in. They lied, usual Jag dealer customer service.

Anyway the fix is with the ignition on open the door and give the CD cartridge a good couple of hard taps that should be enough to release the jammed CD. Then take the cartridge out and slide each tray in and out. Should fix it but may take 2-3 times.

I would install the iPod connection this is well documented on this site.

Default E-01

simonnallen, I tried that when mine did it. It didnt work. I'm not sure if it was a jammed CD, or anything else, but i tried wiggling it, hitting it (with the ignition on and cd door open) but none of it worked. That's when I went to the screwdriver. It may just depend on what kind of jam it is.

Glenn- It appears that you have an X-type, not an XK8 or XKR. Try posting your question in the X-type group for the best response.

Thanks for the advice. Had the same code on my 01 xk8 today. Just threatening it with a screwdriver seemed to take care of the problem!

Yeah the tap worked like a charm. Back to kicking the old model T to get it to start!

For those of you having this issue. I found that mine didn't like burned discs. Replaced all with original store bought and voila!!! Do they even sell original cds anymore?? LOL Been years! Time to look into the ipod connection

To remove the stuck magazine cut a piece of thin plastic (like credit card thin) about 3" X7". Insert under the magazine and slide it all the way under the magazine on the left side. Rock it around toward the right side and move it around a bit. This will release the magazine 90% of the time. The loading mechanism is run by small plastic gears the strip out after a while. I never found a good fix and the Alpine people do not sell parts. When this happens a few times it is time to figure out another source; new head unit etc.. I have 36 years in the Car Stereo business and saw a lot of this.

This works like a charm, but on the XK8, the CD changer is on the Right side, instead of the Left, so the card stock/plastic, etc, needs to be slid in on the right side of the magazine and wiggled to the left. The mag will pop out when it gets a little past 1/2 way.

Wink auto changer error message: CD E-01

Thanks to the posts I managed to remove the cassette. I used a combo of flat head screw driver and a sliver of tin I had lying about. I am now the proud owner of a Billy Idol CD courtesy of the previous owner! I'll probably use an air can and a dab of silicone to the cd sliders before replacing. If it gives me too much trouble, I'll probably go the Parrot route.

Take a thin piece of sturdy cardboard, cut it into a 2"x7" piece.
Slip it under the magazine and push it around. You will depress the release pin and the magazine will pop out. This does no damage to the machine and works every time on almost all types of automotive cd changers. I was in the car audio for business 36 years and routinely serviced these units. I doubt there are part for them any longer.

Silicon can melt some plastics. Despite your good intentions, I don't think anything good will come out of using it here.
