Replaced the front brake pads on my 2001 XK8 with the Duralast Gold pads from Autozone. Cost about $35.

Then decided to replace the rear pads with the same brand and discovered they cost about double. $64 I believe. I went ahead and bought them then discovered that the clips that go into the center of the piston on the inboard side of the caliper are not the right size. The outer pad fit fine but we could not make the other one work. Seems this is the European version pad, according to Autozone. So we took the back pads back and got a credit.

Now have rear pads on order for the rear from Discount foreign car parts for $29. We will see how those work out.

Just wanted to give you all a heads up that there can be a difference in pad construction and they sometimes will not fit no matter how hard you use your tools to bend and alter the spring clips. ha|

 

Hi, I had the same problem with the Autozone rear pads on my 2001 XK8, but I used my channel lock pliers to compress the spring clips until it fit. Pads work great. Ron

 

My akebono's were the same, found out my part number needed an A after the 688, but I did the same as Ron, just pulled the outer clips in a bit, and stuck it in. Nothing else was affected, and been in there for like 40k miles...still look great, and don't move. sorry you didn't post up sooner, you could've enjoyed those first pads, and had matching front/rears.
