BBS Detroit Rim Rebuild- Questions
Im having my Detroit wheels redone. Last owner refinished them in a gold color and left two trim rings on and two off. I bought new trim rings and found a powdercoat that resembles the original Oyster color MUCH better.
Anyway, my one concern was the hidden valve. When I split these rims is there a special o ring or seal at this location I should worry about? I've done a set of Sepangs and didn't have to worry about that.
Many Thanks
Damon

Hi Slowpoke
When my Detroit's were split and refurbished there was no special seals.
I also took the opportunity to replace the valve bolts with ones that don't rust, which unfortunately the originals can.

well I am having the centers powder coated and cleared. Barrels powder coated and cleared then having them ceramic coated. Also have two new ss trim rings I’m installing. Total cost $800 without trim ring cost. Could have saved some money if I didn’t clear or ceramic coat .
Slowpole,
While you have those Wheels split, it would be a good time to replace the BBS Air Valves....They will cost you $18.00 to $20.00 (Bucks) each and are hard to find...You will need to find someone that deals with BBS stuff. They are a long air valve with a rubber valve inside....Like a big Valve stem....on the inside of the Rim...Your little gizmo that you check the air with screws into the Air Valve.... Why do you want to Powered Coat these Wheels? BBS just Painted them....You can buy BBS paint colors from these same on line stores and save a ton of money and the Wheels will look as good or better!

They are a BBS & Jaguar Wheel specialist in England....They have everything BBS 1986 to 2006 X-100 Models and on! They have Wheels, the little Hub Caps, Paint and everything!
Question for you....What happens to the Wheel after you powder-coat it?...I heard somewhere that you could never get the stuff off the Wheel... what if you wanted to repaint it? Anyway, if you need anything BBS....This is the Place!

Thank you so much. The powder coat is much more durable than paint. I’ve used it several times on wheels refurbishing and engine and suspension bits. If you do scratch it there are serve all things you can do including touch up with a color matched paint . Likely if I damaged a wheel enough I’d get it refinished. I’ve also had the ceramic coat applied to other wheels. The dust literally washes off with just water.
We will see how they come out. I’ll surely post pictures. Anyone know what the barbell color should be?

I tried to give you SB Wheels in England but I couldn't get them to come up on the Web...Strange that I can go through my saved Websites and they do....Since it is screwed up, I'm sending you Dave's Website as it always works: https://www.XK8.parts.com you may already have this email but if not you should...I have bought a number of Parts from Dave and they have always been exactly what I wanted.....He has all the parts you will need for the Jaguar "BBS" Wheels and if he doesn't, he can get them!
I don't know what adhesive is use if any...That's another reason for not "Powder-Coating" them, you have to take them apart...
Dave has the 20" Trim Rings, the "Air-Valves", all the Parts you will need for the job....He always has or can get anything for an X-100...
Good Luck with the Wheels! I expect to see photos of this job!

will come out nice
It does look that way. Hope this turns out the way I am expecting them to...….Ive done a set of Sepangs before but painted them.
Might be too late to be useful, but to offer a second option, I ordered all new hardware from PW Motorsport https://pwmotorsport.com/shop,bbs-products.html (Hopefully this is obvious, but I have no affiliation with them)
Bolts, the valve bolts, valve caps, everything. They arrived in a little over a week (from Germany).

The rims aren't done yet and I could still theoretically do this. I had planned on polishing up the ones that come off.
Gee Wheez! Ray!
Is there any room left to put any thing else on the List?
I think you you've named just about everything in the Accessory Book...and you've even got 4 more DWS's than I do. Best I could do was 2 DW's on the Front and 2 DWS's on the Rear.....Where did you put those other 2? And Ray, you've lost me as I don't even know what some of that stuff you've got listed is!
Oh sorry! I just noticed "SmoggyX100's" list of goodies and Ray, I'm sorry but he has you beat by 1/2 inch.....!
But I will say this, "That is a good looking XKR Coupe!" You have the right to Bragg a little...…
