Default Befuddled with this Airbag light .(very weird unique situation)

Hey All. it's been a while since i havn't been on here but I need help from the community on this one. My 01 XK8 has a very weird airbag light problem. Heres how it goes.
(code 16 flashing) ONLY if i leave the key in position 2 for more than 10 seconds. To be more clear. If i get in the car and turn on the engine, no airbag light. If i put my key in position 2, get comfy in the car, plug up my iphone etc etc, and then turn the car on, i get code 16. Now, if i turn the car off and turn it back on, airbag light goes away. This is driving me crazy. I deleted the airbag (B codes) but once the key is in position 2 again, and i go to start the car again from position 2, same codes come up (the codes are pass occupancy sensor).
Has anyone experienced anything like this?

Codes can be different between model years, and your model year doesn't have a occupancy sensor, so its something else. A dealer tool might be helpfull in getting the true DTC code, and that may lead to understand what could be the main issue.

Hi Avos,

My car does in fact have occupancy sensors. I have pretty high end equipment, and the dealer near me doesn't know **** from shinola. It's not the code thats got me concerned ( but i did pull the B codes as mentioned earlier). its the fact that if i turn my car on, no airbag light. If i put it in pos. 2 and then turn it on, i get the airbag light. If i turn car off, and turn it back on, no airbag light. I was thinking maybe it was a califbration issue, or learning issue.
Any other ideas?

Sorry, thought that it only went in with the 2003 models.

At least from the 2003 models you have different sensors, which can be determined by the PID with the DTC (just do a search on occupancy sensor here).

Don't know if the units/ECU can be recalibrated, that would be a 1st try after determining which occupancy sensor it is (if yours have a similar amount as the 2003 up cars).

Hey Avos,
My car has 4 sensors; checked all the connections to make sure everything looked ok. one of my best friends has an xkr; he's coming up to visit me in the next week or so; i'll make sure to swap all sensors with his car and see if anything comes of it. I just found it odd that if i turned the car off and then back on, the light stays off. This had me thinking it was a calibration/learning issue.

Don't think the airbags have a "learning" cycle, but there is an easy way to find out. Just do the hard reset using the battery terminal method.
