Belts and pulleys
My 2001 4.0 xkr needs some preventative maintenance. I have had the car less than a year and most of that time she’s been laid up. I’ve changed the oil but after spending all my time and money working on the xjs it’s now time for the r. The service history was good upto 50k when it had the last stamp in the book but that was 2009. Now on 63 k it has a few receipts for oil and plugs and a gearbox oil change but no other paperwork. I plan a 60 k service Aswell as checking the timing chain tensioners. Now the questions : would you change the belt tensioners while doing the belts? Is it possible to check them? What about the water pump and thermostat? Anything else while this stuffs getting done? Thanks in advance for any help.
As part of some much needed maintenance catching up I plan to change the belts on my 2001 xkr. Question is should I do the pulleys and tensioner at the same time and what else if anything would you do while there off ? Thanks for the help in advance
Totally agree that you should simply replace the belt (2min job) but worth spinning all the pulleys to see if you have a problem anywhere.
It’s easily audible if you have a grumbly bearing on a pulley. Also worth a 30sec look to check for scoring burning marks on the pulleys.

Thankyou both. I dont fancy changing both the supercharger and auxiliary belts so will get the mechanic to check the pulleys and tensioner. Cam cover over next to check those other tensioners🙄
