For a quiet and refined ride on my 99 XK8, rattles are a major PITA. As I’ve worked through my numerous rattling issues, I noticed a new rattle in the front of the engine bay, esp. when I go over a bump. Couldn’t be a suspension knock as I did a front suspension R&R recently. So I did my usual open door lever trick, rocking the car, in the garage. And I found it was coming from the front left of the engine bay.
It was the Power steering reservoir rattling against the top of the radiator.
So looking at it, the power steering bottle’s bracket is mounted on the ABS unit, and there are rubber anti vibration washers on these fixings. These had perished.
RHS are my perished washers. LHS are replacements from my box of bits.
As my replacement washers weren’t as thick as OEM, and the fixing bolt threads were short, I had to use a nylon spacer (White) to secure the mounting nuts.
