Default Engine compartment ID

In an effort to prove that there are still dumb questions, I propose the following:

What is the round black reservoir in the drivers side front of the engine compartment of a 1997 XK8 convertible and what is it filled with? I've tried a search and came away frustrated.

I think you are referring to the power steering reservoir. It would be filled with power steering fluid. Does it have a cap on it about 2 inches or so in diameter, located on the left side just behind the hood hinge?

The relevant page from the VEHICLE CARE HANDBOOK:

Item 1 - Power Steering Reservoir.

If you don't have the handbooks for your vehicle, they can be downloaded as PDF's from here:

Thanks guys!
I guess I had a 55 year old brain fart.
Graham, I'll try loading the handbook into my laptop but I think I may have had
trouble awhile back trying to load it along with the service manual

Nick,

If you're having problems installing JTIS, the PDF version of the 1997 XK8 Workshop Manual could be a useful alternative for you. It's available for download from the XK8/XKR FAQ's:

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...ts-data-29800/

Almost at the end of the post, under WORKSHOP MANUALS - PDF Format. The First Edition - 1997 is the one for you vehicle but the Second Edition - 1999 has useful additional information.

Graham
