Default Bike Mount / Rear Windshield Question

Hello,

I am looking for a bike mount to use on my freshly painted XK8 coupe.

I like the idea of the following mount which attaches via suction cups:

https://www.seasucker.com/collection...nt=29994676369

Would anyone take issue with mounting that to the rear glass? I am an avid road cyclist and the bike only weighs about 15 lbs. I am primarily concerned with the force on the glass while at speed, could that be a problem?

Thanks!

Kevin

I've been using the Saris bones 2 rack on my XKR convertible for 5 years no problem. Can cruise on the motorway for several hours at 70mph plus.

Can you take a photo of that rack mounted on your car?
I'd like to see how it fits.

Are you concerned about scratches and damage to the paint?

I use the Saris Bones 3 bike rack on my x350. It has been a good rack and I intend to use it on my x100 too, though I have not hooked it up yet. I am also installing a hitch mount on my x100, so I may convert to a hitch bike carrier. Here is a picture on my XJ.

I typically load 3 bikes on (all aluminum, but only one of them is really semi light weight). The XJ is aluminum too, and handles the weight like a champ. I usually throw a soft rag or slip socks on the feet ends at each contact point on the paint's surface so it doesn't scratch. I have not had any marring from the rack at all. I don't think I would try to use it on paint with just the rubber feet.

Sorry, I don't have any experience with the suction style racks, though if that's what I wanted, I wouldn't hesitate to use it. I just like to know my bikes are strapped on.

Haven't got any pics of it attached, but used it with just rubber feet until one day I stupidly put it on the floor and picked up some grit, so now use a soft cloth under main foot that sits on top of boot. The other two feet that sit on bumper are fine and the clips that go on the ends are fine too.
I've generally used it for 1 road bike approx 6.5kg on a regular basis but when driven upto Silverstone for the F1 with my dad we put two heavy bikes on there and they were fine.

Welcome to the forum Kevin,

A similar situation - some F-Type Coupe owning members have used the SeaSucker solution with good reports.

We use a similar ski rack on the side window but for that price you could buy a hitch and a hitch bike rack then still have enough left over for a few nights out on the town.

Yikes, I didn't see the price. I bought my hitch from home depot for about $170 shipped.

CURT Class 1 Trailer Hitch for Jaguar XK8 or XKR 11750 at The Home Depot - Mobile

I bought my Saris for under $200 from Performance Bike if I remember correctly.

so far no scratches but you must keep the rubber/paint of course free of dirt.

Default Who needs a bike mount?

Having an enormous trunk/boot in the XK8 convertible, I simply stow my roadbike in it and just travel as fast as I want to go...

I have no requirement to carry more than one bike.

Cheers and happy biking!!!
