Bird Like Squeak
I just took possession of a 1998 XK8 convertible with 33,000 original miles. The car is in like new condition and has been regularly serviced and garaged.
I have noticed a random squeak that appears to be coming from the area around the steering wheel or dash. I sounds just like a baby bird and the sound level varies from very low to a little high. I have tried various grips and tension on the steering wheel and column and pressing various areas of the dash around the instrument cluster. Quite annoying.
Any suggestion as to how to trouble shoot?
Thanks

This sound is often caused by deteriorating foam insulation inside the HVAC vents, allowing plastic parts to rub together and squeak. There are numerous threads here regarding the various inexpensive ways owners have silenced their similar dash noises....
