Default Blue Tooth in 2005 XK8?

Sorry to seem stupid but is there a blue tooth hook-up in my 05 Jag, or not, and do I need to buy extra equipment to make it compatible? Just got my car last week-end and trying to get to know "her". Any input will be appreciated.
thank you,
Al

Hi Al, welcome to the forum! Wishing you many years of enjoyment with your XK.

As an owner of an 05 like you, I went through this issue as well when I first got mine last year.

Short answer is, your car might have it. With the introduction of the 4.2L ('05 MY in the US), bluetooth was an option for the XK. However, even when it was introduced, it was a rather outdated system and quite pricey; therefore, most cars weren't fitted with it from the factory.

Take a look at this thread for more details on the system and determining if your car is fitted with it:

If not, you can either install an aftermarket bluetooth system or completely switch out the radio for a newer unit with built-in bluetooth. If you decide to go down one of these paths, search the forum as there are many useful and thorough threads detailing both options.

I may have forgot to mention my Jag in a convertible and has navigation in case that makes any diff. I am not "attached" to my phone so it's no biggy for me to just make a call when I get to where I'm going

The convertible shouldn't make a difference, and I think bluetooth was a stand alone option not related to the nav system.

Also, as a side note, this is the forum for 07+ cars (didn't even realize it with my first reply).

For your next post, you want to look under "modern" instead of "current" and select the XK8/XKR forum.

Perhaps a moderator can move this thread?

I've moved your question from X150 to X100 forum. This is the place to post technical questions about your model.

I just installed a JagCD-HF Bluetooth unit, so far I love it.

It sits in series with the CD changer in the trunk, and a controller module connects under the center console.

Purchased from Discount Stereo . Very impressed with customer service.

Provides an additional charging port In the cabin.

Allows me to stream audio.

Take, make, manage, phone calls hands free now.

CD changer and FM unchanged.

Oh yeah - one unexpected benefit: I can use a free equalizer. Always wanted to try one in this car. EQ only works on Pandora or whatever I'm streaming.

Some this unit has been discussed and reviewed before, I'll stop here. If anyone wants more info or has any questions just let me know.

John

Is the factory bluetooth unit in these cars phone only or could it also play the music on the phone?

I'm going to be checking tomorrow. Fingers crossed that my XKR has bluetooth.

Turns out my XKR doesn't have a blue tooth. It only has a regular old canine.

My 2006 XK8 has bluetooth. It worked great with the iPhone 5c I had at the time I bought the car. Soon thereafter I replaced my phone with a Samsung S8. Now, Bluetooth no workee.

I gather that if I want to restore the convenience of Bluetooth, I have to strart over, as if I have none. Right?

aftermarket systems such as parrot cost less than £150 fitted in the UK, was my very first mod when purchased in 2006.

if you want to go OEM then you'll be paying a whole lot more!
