Brake Fluid Flush
2001 XKR Convertible
Preparing to flush brake fluid and am contemplating DOT 5.1 for its higher dry and wet boiling points. It is a glycol based fluid as is DOT 3 & 4.
Has anyone used DOT 5.1 or know of the minus side besides a little more expensive?
I know that DOT 5 is silicone based and is not to be mixed with DOT 3,4,or 5.1, and is not recommended for Jaguar application.
Attempted search on forum but did not find specifics.

As 5.1 is not available at most auto stores, I would use DOT 4 just to make it easy to add fluid and so on. The slightly higher boiling point specs for 5.1 are of no use unless you go to track days and smoke the brakes a lot and need every degree you can get before it boils. I use ATE super blue racing fluid, it's going to work just fine and it's DOT 4.
I also use the ATE Super blue, it even exceeds the 5.1 specs, yet has the same viscosity as jaguar recommends. An advantage of this one is the blue color which helps in clearing to old oil. ATE also has a gold colored one, so I swap them every 2 years.
