I had exactly the same experience with an MPV, only in my case the calliper did rotate. Fortunately, the RAC (roadside assistance), carried a correct spec replacement bolt and fixed it at the roadside as no damage had been done.

RAC, from all reports seen on JF seems to be sooooo much better than the autoclub.

You can tell if threadlock was used on a bolt - you'd see the blue glue in the threads. The only bolts I've seen that used it are the two star head bolts that hold the lower wishbone together. JTIS says the bolts through the lower control arm bushings are to be replaced - didn't understand why so I didn't replace them.

Had same problem on mine after a brake job. Years ago I had a new BMW and I had a highly reputable shop pick my car up for a routine oil change and maintenance. When I drove hoem that night, the engine bay began smoking terribly and the oil light came on and I could hear valve clatter! Yep, the tech forgot to screw the oil fill cap on!

Can I assume from all this that Jaguar stopped the use of safety wire? If so, when, specifically? My X300 still uses safety-wired bolts.

Cheers

My XKR has Brembos, so this problem does not exist, but when I changed my rotors I had to remove the calibers. The bolts holding them on required a 650 ftlb impact wrench to break loose. Replacing them, I think was 210Nm of tork. All in all this is a very robust area to work in.

Hey doug, what's a asfety-wired bolt look like? This may be my only chance to see one.

Here you go Matt.

We used to have to wire everything, sump plugs, oil & fuel fillers, spindle nuts, calipers etc, when I was racing sidecars.

The X308 has at least one place that still does ... I think.

Not always. And especially if someone has beaten you to the fastener, and did not re-apply threadlock.
