Brake Switch?

Brake Switch?
xk8 coupe.
Before I buy the brake switch, I what to make sure that's my issue.
When the car is first started the dash is clear of warnings. The cruise control button on the console will illuminate. After a few minutes I get a engine fail safe warning and a check rear lights warning. The car still drives fine and rear lights still work, but the cruise button no longer illuminates on the console. The cruise control definitely won't work after the warning, and I cannot confirm if it will work before (warning comes on before I get to the highway). I do not get a cruise failure warning at any time.

Although the brake switch is a likely villain I diagnosed the same problem on my car as the cruise control switch. I would get these messages whenever the cruise button was up, never when it was down.
Exercised the CC button a lot of times and the problem went away. The plan was to remove the CC switch and spray with electrical contact cleaner but the problem has not reappeared in several months.
That might also be a plan for the brake switch JIC.

brake light switch
I had the same problem with my brake light switch. Went to a u pull, you save junkyard and found a switch in a older model jag. pulled it out and found the only difference was the pigtail on the switch. switched the pigtail with a solder iron and the problem was solved for $5.00. There are two micro switches in the brake light assem. One of which will probably be the cause of the problem. Easy enough to check with an ohm meter and I bet a micro switch can be found at radio shack. Good luck. steve
