Welcome to the site! That's quite a project you're about to undertake. You may want to ask your question on the dedicated XK8 section:

I've moved your thread from Intro to XK8/XKR 1996-2005 section where you should get a wider response from owners of the same model.

Good luck with the project.

Sorry to hear about the damage. You must live in Texas. The same thing happened to me. I live in Irving between Dallas and Ft. Worth. AAA totaled my '99 with 130k for $9,000. You didn't mention how much the new motor-less Jag would cost. Even if you got it for free, you're still asking for a lot of headaches, I don't care how handy you are.

I took the money and ran. I suggest you do the same. Try to find a newer model year
for a few bucks more. You'll break out ahead moneywise. Maybe an XKR? Good luck.

Punctuation, man! Punctuation! Jeez. Best of luck with your project, though. We'll help if we can.

Default . . . and capitalization!

Coincidentally, I just received this on email:

From a teacher -- short and to the point

In the world of hi-tech gadgetry, I've noticed that more and more
people who send text messages and emails have long forgotten the
art of capital letters.

For those of you who fall into this category, please take note of the
following statement: "Capitalization is the difference between helping
your Uncle Jack off a horse and helping your uncle jack off a horse."

Is everybody clear on that?

You have come to the right place. There are lots of friendly and very knowledgable people here, but we need to be able to understand you if you want useful advice.

"Fewer grammar lessons" would be correct, as lessons are countable nouns. Uncountable nouns take "less": sugar, water, information, advice. Countable nouns take "fewer": apples, books, cars, lessons. ;-)

You really haven't asked any questions, so we're bored and irritable.

As both someone who has gotten their hands dirty on the jag, and an accountant, I suggest you take the 86 in this situation and look for a comparable XK8 (or upgrade to an XKR).

Stick around meeburt, you'll realize that everyone around here (at least in the xk8=r area) love to poke fun and dish out some sarcasm...no malice intended, I assure you. I've often made observations of new members using little, if any, punctuation or caps. Reading text messages on your phone is MUCH different than reading them on your computer in a forum atmosphere. It may take a little longer to turn on your shift for caps on the phone or tablet, but its courteous for those reading it.

As a junior member but experienced in the mechanics of these vehicles, I agree with POMSOV, take the money. 97 and 98 had unique issues worked out in the later cars. You could end up with two cars that you cannot enjoy. Take the money, do your homework and find that gem, they are out there.
