Default Drivers side window on convertible

I just bought an 04 XKR convertible. When I open the passenger side door, the window will stay down a little bit until the door is closed. The drivers side does not do this. When I lift the door handle, The window will come down a little enough for the door to open. It then goes up the whole way. It will not let the door close. I have to lift the door handle to close the door. Does anyone have any ideas on what to look at before I take it in.

Likeliest explanations are that you need to reset your window-travel settings or you have a failed microswitch. I'd try the former first. Both are in the forum sticky, here:

Just look under "Window Reset" (or click below):

. Window Adjustment_video - setting the convertible's 'drop' height when lifting the handle
. Another window adjustment video from Reverend Sam, with the final adjustment points shown necessary to align the glass to the seals, set the final stopping point, and how to get the 'tilt' for the best, most quiet alignment.
. Window Immediately Raises upon Release of Door Handle (failed micro switch in door latch)

Not the expert here, but there are plenty on this forum.

Try resetting your windows. This is done with the doors closed and the windows up as far as they go. Lower the window using its own switch to the bottom position and hold. When you here a click or ding, release. Now raise the window up and hold at the top. You will hear another click/ding and you should be good. Repeat for the other window.

...and if the above advice fixes your problem, and then it comes back soon after, chances are very good that you need a new battery.

Or at least a full-tilt battery charge, especially if the car's been idle for a while while waiting for you with a "for sale" sign on it.

If none of the above works there's a micro-switch in the door that trips when the door latch is in the open position. That's what keeps the window down a bit while the door is open.
They go wrong (but shouldn't make the window open all the way).
If the car's under warranty it is an expensive replacement, if not there's a thread on a cheap DIY replacement.
EDIT - just noticed Marsden referred to this in post #2

If the reset doesnt work and the battery is OK try spraying some WD40 on the door latch. Gus pointed this out months ago. If the latch opens enough to open the door but is not fully open the electronics can get screwd up. I also adjusted the striker on the door jamb to help force the latch to fully open.

If the battery is suspect try opening and closing the door with the engine running, That will ensure there is plenty of power for the controls.
