Default Butterfly Valve

Does the ignition need to be onto to open the butterfly valve fully or is purely mechanical from the throttle cable?

I tried to clean my throttle body yesterday and jammed a piece of dowel between the throttle pedal and the driver’s seat making sure to have the kickdown switch engaged with the ignition off.

The butterfly valve was only open about 1/4 of the way. The throttle cable had been adjusted to be taught and still allowing for the snap back to the stop when released manually.

Thanks,
Karl

Just rotate the cable spindle by hand to open the butterfly for cleaning.

Removal of the TB is NOT required.

The throttle motor is pretty powerful. I would NOT mess with it while the key is ON (power applied).

Thoughts of missing fingers comes to mind.
