Question cabin filter

Is there a cabin filter in a 2000XK8 conv. and if so where is it?

It was an optional item and very few cars had it fitted.

The filter would be located under the cowl cover panel toward the right hand side. To get at it, you start by removing the wiper arms...

Remove the wipers (you'll need a little tool to "pop" the wipers off their spindle), remove the plastic plenum panel, and you'll see where the filter can go.

This might help:

Not much of a problem since just about none of the cars sent to the US had the filter housing installed but lots of folks have bought the filters with good intentions.

No point to fitting a cabin filter in a ragtop, you know....

Not too sure why they call them "pollen filters" on the XK8/XKR.

My XK8's didn't have them but the one on my XK (now renamed "cabin filter" on the later model) trapped a lot of black industrial particulates in only a few months.

Is there any easy way of telling if it is fitted or not. I don't particularly want to pull all that lot apart if there's no filter there.

There is not really any way to verify the filter housing except removing the plenum panel. A build sheet available from a dealer will tell you if it left the factory with one but the housing has a part number and could have been installed later . . . or not.

+1

a.f.a.i.k. it's impossible to see the filter housing through the panel.

Knowing what you're looking for can help. Here's the extract from the Parts Catalogue showing the housing and filter:

From previous threads about the pollen filter, those who have one fitted have often found it does more the restrict air flow to the AC than provide effective filtration as it can easily get blocked.

WTF. All that trouble only to find an empty hole.

And of course I now have two useless new filters!

Will have to make my own. Anyone have a pic of what the filter holder should look like? Maybe the dimensions between the mounting holes too?

Oy.

I feel your pain.

Yesterday I bought a cabin filter and I just spent a lot of time this AM pulling stuff apart only to find out this 2003 XK8 doesn't have one. Grrr.

AFAIK, the whole "filter" is really a paper element and a plastic template the filter fits into. The template is secured to the car with a couple of paint-drilling screws. It is all listed in the parts catalog, a couple of posts above. I ordered the template from the dealer a number of months ago (have not installed it, yet). The whole thing was fairly inexpensive, as I suspect Jaguar is sitting on a mountain of those. One more thing, the RHD and LHD cars have a separate plastic template, probably mirror image, with separate part#.

Best of luck, keep us posted.

Hey fmertz, can you post a few pics of the darn thing? From the top, from the back, from the side? Would really appreciate it. And which dealer did you purchase from?

Not 100% sure, but I did not order it. My sense is that it is already in the car, at the very top of the air box.

There is a great how-to in this post: retro-fitting-cabin-pollen-filter-57668/
