Default Cabin Noise

Gang,

I have a 2010 XKR. I took it into the dealership for an oil change and software upgrade (to deal with a media centre issue). I also had a new water pump installed (the old one was leaking engine coolant) shortly after the oil change. I noticed a few weeks after the work, that a new noise has started in the cabin.

1. When I get into the car, no foot on the break, car is not running, I hear a "whining" noise.

2. After driving the car and turning the engine off, I can hear the whining noise, although it's a bit different. I sat in the car for about 10 minutes after shutting the engine off and the noise continues.

I sat in a new 2015 model (at the deal). When I get into the car, it makes the same noise. Now, my car did not make the noise prior to the oil change, software upgrades, water pump, etc.

Any ideas?

Thanks …

Phil ...

Welcome to the forum but you are in the wrong place. This is XK8/XKR site ('96-'06). A mod will come along shortly and move the post.

Phil, there is an aspirator fan in the dashboard that samples the air temperature for the climate control system. On the X150 ('06 and later) models it can run for quite a few minutes after shutting down the car. If you then do anything to wake the car up from sleep (even opening a door) it will start up again. Some can be particularly noisy, but it is not really a problem unless it is loud enough to annoy you while the engine is running...then it should be replaced.

Thanks for the information. It's a new sound, which was not there before (or at least I could not hear it). When should it turn off, after the car is shut down?

If will shut down after 10 to 20 minutes or so after the car is shut down provided nothing in the vehicle is pressed, activated, opened, closed, locked, unlocked, etc.
