Does anyone have a link to a diagram, or can upload a photo, of the bolts on the Cam covers for an xk8?
i thought I kept mine in the right sequence, but now I'm missing one (Driver's side, bottom back) and of course am unsure if the others are in the right order as a result.
I'm talking about the tall ones and the short ones. Where do they go?
Are the tall ones simply not the ones that the plastic covers push on to? In which case, just hold the covers in place and you will see where the long ones go.
Or are you talking about the short-threaded ones that go next to the cam position sensor? Not all X100 have the short bolts but if you do you can see where the CPS is mounted at the bulkhead end of the engine and use the short bolts next to the CPS.
Go easy:- torque is 9-11 Nm only. Make sure that you:
1) Replace the rubber isolator washers NCA2575CA ( there are 28 of them) to ensure that the cover seals properly, and;
2) Ensure you place the 'special' bolts (the only ones that are not captive in the isolator) in the rearmost top of each cam cover. The other bolts are longer and likely to skewer the cam position sensor.

Thanks - but I need to know where the tall ones (the ones the beauty cover sit on) go - I ordered new bolts but I think that someone in the past put extra tall bolts mixed in -
And my cam covers are in my wife's car and she's out of town and I want to get this buttoned up to work on other projects.

I think we are talking past each other. The beauty covers, engine covers, whatever we want to call them are in my wife's car. She's out of town. I can't hold them up to the cam covers to see where the longer holding bolts go.
I want to put the cam covers on and get it all buttoned up but without knowing which bolts go where (i.e., in which position the "tall" post bolts that the top covers push onto go) I can't do that until she returns monday.

Ah ..... you didn't mention the missing engine covers in your original post which I first replied to, and in your clarification to Michael you referred to "cam covers" which is the same part you refer to in your thread title and in your post above and which you have with you.
Thanks. That helped. Looks like a previous mechanic used some extra "tall" bolts in random places rather than the correct ones so I was able to identify where they go (by the plugs in yours).
Almost forgot the dipstick gets a tall one too, luckily figured that out in a test fit.
