Default can't turn ASL off

Had a problem with the speed sensor, which has just been fixed in my 2005 xk8. But the ASL light is always on- nothing happens when I hit the switch.
and of course, cruise control is now that weird limiter control, which I don't like at all.
anyone have any suggestions?

Is the ASL operating and limiting your top speed regardless of throttle position or is it just the tell tale light on permanently?

If it is permanently engaged, I'd suspect the switch has failed in the ON position. Disconnecting the multiplug should verify this. To access this, the transmission selector veneer panel has to be removed.

Very easy on the later models with four torx screws in the aluminium surround. RTemove the four screws and lift the aluminium surround off. The veneer panel then lifts out with the ASL and Sport switches attached.

thanks graham
will give that a try.

OBD codes were c1175 (also P1000). Was able to clear the 1175 with the change in wheel sensors. There might be a chance that I have to drive it some more for the ASL light to disappear. Haven't seen any reports of that, but ASL doesn't work with the bad sensor ( C1175 ) code.

This is a test sheet for a 1999 and do not know if it is the same for your 2005 but it will help

C1175 is a DSC Control Module error code for a LH rear wheel speed sensor circuit fault.

On the later models with DSC, the ASL should default to OFF is there's a fault in the system.

However it's a Jaguar and, as we all know, weird things can happen with the electronics.
