Has anyone changed out a knock sensor on the 2000 xkr? And if you have, how far into the removal process did you go. I have the p0328 code reoccurring upon start up.....so I have checked the voltage at the sensor connector--5 volts both banks....ground to the circuit board is good. checked the ohms of the sensor-rh bank 1.3 to 120 ohms, fluctuates...LH bank= 200 ohms and steady. Sounds like a bad sensor to me. The engine runs fine, at all aspects of driving and I have even started putting in octane booster for a few tanks to up the octane to prevent knocking. I have looked at where the sensor is and it looks like a bear to get to.

yes, I hacked a knock sensor fix because my retirement finances and health did not allow me to do the proper fix. The proper fix involves removing the supercharger. I was not prepared to do that. I can’t do any sustained activity that has me lifting or bending over the engine. My heart is not up to the strain.

Or be paying a shop to do the job either.

Frankly, based on my experience, I don’t see the need to worry about my knock sensor hack.


My hack / fix is outlined in the post from two years ago.

In the ensuing two years since my hack, I’ve driven about 20,000 miles, with no drop off in power or drivability. There have been more full
power runs than I can count.

Truthfully, I’ve pretty much forgotten about the knock sensor issue. If and when the supercharger needs to be removed to keep the car moving forward, I’ll replace the bad knock sensor and the other one too for good measure.

NOTE: I am not recommending that anyone do
wnat I’ve done regarding the knock sensor. I’m
willing to pay the piper if my hack damages the engine. Others may see the hack as a foolhardy risk.

However, so far, I’m in the clear,

PS: save your money on the octane booster. It’s not a game changer.

haven’t thought of repositioning the sensor, but its something to consider due to the extensive disassembly of your engine, which can create even more problems.
