Default Check Engine Light

My first post so thanks for the indulgence.

I recently bought a 2005 XKR Convertible with 72,000 miles (two owner, service records).
About a week after I purchased the vehicle, the check engine light came on (great timing).

My repair shop ran diagnostics and suggested new spark plugs (which I agreed to - $400).
The light came back on within a day or two.

My repair shop again ran diagnostics and suggested new ignition coils (which I agreed to - $900).

The check engine light came on again the very next day.

Any hints or suggestions before I go back to the repair ship?

I have ordered a new air intake hose (it was damaged previously) and a new gas cap but they aren't in yet.

Thanks, David

What DTCs did the shop find stored that triggered the MIL?

Seems like a lot of guesswork going on.

Find a new shop. The one you are using is throwing parts at the problem and bleeding you dry....

Get yourself an OBDII code reader. Read the codes and post them on here. Definitely worth the investment -

Default Current Diagnostic Code

Initially, they told me about a “misfire”, hence the plugs and coils. I didn’t ask for the codes (dummy me).

Now, however, I’m seeing a P0171 - Bank 1 system too lean.

And yes, looking for a new mechanic as we speak.
