Default Check engine light after exhaust work (H-pipe)

Hi

Just had my centre muffler removed and an H-pipe and new tips installed on my 2001 XK8. Love the new sound!

But when cold the engine idles very rough and stalls sometimes. I have to give it some revs to keep it from stalling. The check engine light is on and an intermittent "restricted performance" light.

Anyone had similar issues?

Tried searching with no luck...

Lots of guys on the forum have made that mod without problems. It may take a few starts for everything to reset and settle down. But just for fun, try a battery reset. Maybe the computer is confused.

If that doesn't work, see if it is throwing any error codes.

Exactly. Pull codes and see what you get. I replaced everything behind the cats with a custom system with no issues whatsoever, so I'd say it is a coincidence.

Default Codes

I pretty much changed ever part of the exhaust several times even swapped out the cats and only had code problems when I started mucking with the intake.

Thanks for the help so far! I will try to see if there is any codes. Do you need an ODBII scanner or is there a clever way to get these up? Flashing lights etc?

I'm a bit reluctant to try the hard reset as I don't have the radio code. The radio is an aftermarket XM radio installed by the previous owner. So I'll probably try to get the fault codes first and see if those make any sense.

ODBII scanner is your only choice. Also, most (if not all) US cars have been programmed to not need a code for the stereo.

Ok, got the codes.

P1111 - Which can be ignored, right?
P0172 - Rich bank
P0175 - Rich bank

Had the same codes a few moths ago, cleaned the MAF and the CEL and RP went away. Now their back intermittent.

So, I cleaned the MAF and had the codes erased. And so far it's all good. Have done a little reading about these faults (seems to be quite common) And it seems to be either a faulty MAF, vacuum leak or some air leak after the MAF.

I had had a look under the hood to see if there was any apparent issues. I found the plastic tube which go from the air filter box and to the throttle body to be fitted at a slight angle. Seems that the two screws can't hold it down all the way around. This may cause an air leak? I asume this could be an issue? This tube was replaced about a year ago when I found cracks in the flexible part.

And the dipstick for the oil seems to be somewhat loose. Maybe a leak? (remember reading something about the dipstick and vacuum leak somewhere)

So, I don't think this is related to my exhaust being modified. The car seems to have adjusted to the new conditions and starts and idles normal.

Any further advise which I can do before I get the ODBII reader?

Thanks!
